…says A’Court judgment on Amao welcome development

The Kwara State Chapter of Labour Party (LP) has said the party will not disappoint Kwarans in picking its candidate for the 2019 gubernatorial election in the state even as it described the Appeal Court’s victory sacking Alhaji Abdulhakeem Adelaja Amao as an important development in the affairs of the party.

The appellate court which sacked Amao, dismissed the appeal challenging his replacement as the authentic gubernatorial candidate of the party during the 2015 governorship elections in the state.

But the secretary of the party in the state, Comrade AbdulMumini Onagun told  Pilot Politics that the concern now is to build and grow the party, adding that the judiciary has lived up to expectation.

He said the national crisis in the party will not affect its fortunes in the state and the north central region of the party is very much prepared for the task ahead.

According to him, “As far as we are concerned in the north central states, Kwara inclusive, we are very much prepared for the task ahead and the national crisis does not in any way affect us.

“We are getting across to the zone’s national vice chairman and only last week here in Kwara, we met in regards of getting credible candidates for the local government election.

“We are still studying the time table as regards our gubernatorial candidate and everything will largely depend on the national body but I can assure Kwarans that we will not disappoint them in picking our governorship candidate and we have never disappointed.

“The party is not only determined to pick credible candidate but popular ones across board that will stand the party out during the election. LP is not in any allegiance with anybody or party. That should be made in very clear terms.

On the Appeal Court judgment, Onagun said “The judges have done their best and kudos to the judiciary. It is hoped that everybody will now be particularly informed about the issue as well. They have right to appeal no doubt, but we are very sure of our position.

“Our concern now is to build and grow the party in the state in line with the lied down constitution. Then, we will appreciate, if INEC can take up the conduct of all the elections because the so-called independence of KWASIEC remain suspicious

“My advice is that every electorate should shine his/her eyes this time around and avoid repeating the mistake of the past.
