The Kwara State police command has arrested three suspects for alleged kidnap of one Alhaji Bello of Eleja village, Afon, Asa Local Government Area of the state last Saturday.

The suspects Aliyu Abdullahi, Mohammed Ibrahim and Mamaru Ibrahim, were said to have committed the crime in July last year.

According to a police source, the case was reported at the Afon Division by one Alhaji Usman Mato at around 5pm on the fateful day, after he was informed of the incident by the victim’s son, Rufai Bello.

“Mato said he mobilised the youth of the community to the scene of crime, where they found the victim’s cap.

The source revealed that the suspects contacted Rufai a month after, demanding the sum of N2million as ransom.

“Upon getting the information, the intelligence officers set to work and played along with the suspects, which led to arrest of the three suspects.

“Investigation revealed that two of the suspects were employees of the victim. They confessed that they kidnapped the man to get money from his family members,” the source added.

It was gathered that the case has been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID), while the suspects are undergoing interrogation to give lead to the whereabout of the victim.

Efforts to confirm the case from the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okasanmi  Ajayi, proved abortive as calls and text messages to his mobile phone were not responded to at the time of filling this report.
