Rivers United secured a 2-0 first leg win over Rayon Sports in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup clash played on Sunday at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.

The Garden City team after missing a handful of chances broke the deadlock, just before the half hour mark when Emeka Atuloma scrambled home from a goalmouth melee.

The second goal for the only Nigerian team left on the continent came six minutes into the second half through Ivorian striker Guy Kuemian who made it 2-0 for the home team with a superb volley.

Having won 3-0 last time out in the Champions League, and still caving in the reverse fixture, many have put celebration on hold to see how the Nigerian flag bearers will fare in the stern test that awaits them next weekend as they attempt to defend their two-goal lead to qualify for the group phase of the Confederation Cup.
